What a productive day!

Our morning was full of self-reflecting and goal setting in preparation for SICs.

This afternoon, Constable Cormier, our School Liaison Officer came to chat with both French 6/7 classes. Her message was very positive, but there were many takeaways:

  • Seeing the SLO in schools isn’t usually not a bad thing, their job is help support and guide students to make good choices
  • Biggest social media concern is SnapChat, many believe that once messages are gone, they’re gone, but they’re not, they can be accessed still by the platform and police investigators
  • What is concerning behaviour online? Talking to people you don’t actually know, sharing personal information and images, saying/posting hurtful things about others
  • Long term repercussions- event will follow you forever, trouble when applying to post-secondary/jobs etc
  • Asked if cyberbullying is a one-time thing? She see’s it as yes, a one-time event can have lasting negative impacts on the individual, which can lead to things you can be blamed for
  • Her biggest advice for next year at WGSS (or any next school)- expand your social circle, make good choices in person and on social media, if you do make a mistake, work immediately to fix it, be less addicted to your phone, talk less behind the screen.

Then the students asked her lots of different questions, mainly about her job as a police officer. Hopefully they all took something positive away that they can apply to their lives.

Reminder for the rest of the week:

  • Tomorrow: 12:33 dismissal, SICs
  • Thursday- no school for student, SICs
  • Friday- French Film Festival

À demain!
