What a dark and gloomy day! Hopefully that’s it for the week…

We started our last Socials project, and we saved the best for last- Arts and Rec! I can’t wait to see what everyone creates!

I will be following up in the next few days with everyone who has work to hand in. It is possible that recesses will be given up in order to finish up missing work.

Friday afternoon we will be having one final virtual session with Jannika. In this session we will be discussing issues related to SOGI (Sexual orientation and Gender Inclusion). From how Jannika has approached gender diversity already, I think this session is going to be very information and powerful.

We had a very busy day today: Math Test, Ball Throw, White Hatter, Health Chat #3!

This is us during the White Hatter presentation. If you’re not familiar with this organization, they do presentations for students and adults all about digital citizenship and online safety (just to name a few), and the presentation is very engaging. We learned a lot today. They are a BC based organization. Check out their website if you’d like more information.

It’s days like yesterday and today that I am thankful we are in the Chalet, air conditioning FTW!

Thanks to Dexter, Ty and Spencer for sharing Basket Pong with us in PE today!

We held a moment of silence this afternoon in recognition of the 215 children found and all Residential School victims and survivors. Everyone was very respectful, thank you.

Just a reminder, as the temperature rises and the weather gets more and more summer like, students are encouraged to dress accordingly for outside activities. Many students are wearing their hoodies even after being outside for longer periods of time. Heat stroke and exhaustion are definite possibilities we’d like to avoid, while still enjoying the benefits of being outside. Thanks in advance for your support!

This morning Div 1 participated in a really fun workshop called Manufacturing Pioneers through UBC’s Geering Up. It was an interesting blend of CAD technology (like what engineers and architects use) and coding. It was really fun to see what everyone was able to create! There is a free version for students to use (app or browser) if you search ‘Tinkercad free’. Thanks to the PAC for providing the funding for this workshop.

Welcome to June!

Greetings!

Today carried a lot of emotion. Many students arrived wearing orange, obviously already in the know about the 215 bodies of children found at the Kamloops Indian Residential School. We talked this morning about the significance of the discovery, and what it means in relation to Truth and Reconciliation. I appreciated the maturity and reflective behaviours that were evident in the room, it was definitely a lot to take in on a Monday morning. We are in the process of creating a collaborative display acknowledging and honouring the 215 children. I am hoping it will be finished tomorrow so that I can share it with you. You may want to check in with your child on how they are feeling.

Happy Friday! Today was another busy day!

We finally got to work with area of a circle- Apples Pies are Too! We also got to use some of our energy in the gym, I like seeing all the different activities that students choose to engage in during Open Gym. Today we had students trying to scale the large mat (safely!) as well as using the floor curling rocks in some impromptu curling- super fun!

We also had our second Health Chat with Jannika- today she went over the specific body changes that typically male bodies and typically female bodies undergo, what happens during conception of a fetus, and well as contraception options. On Teams I have shared the document that provides more information on the various contraceptive methods. Like Jannika said- our sessions with her are just a jumping off point, you are encouraged to do your own research about what’s best for your body.

Here are links to the videos she tried to show us: All About Getting Your Period and What Is A Wet Dream?

The website these videos come from AMAZE.ORG has lots of other really informative videos if you are curious.
