We were treated to quite the show today! Hip Hop Hoop Dance was performed by a couple of gentlemen from Saskatchewan, and they blended cultural ties between Cree Hoop Dance and Hip Hop. It was amazing!

Hope you had a good weekend!

Every Monday the students have been sharing out in various ways as a way to practice and prepare for our French speeches in the coming weeks. Today we did a fun one with smarties, ask them about it!

Some of our classmates are having trouble remembering the acceptable use policy they signed off on at the beginning of the year regarding usage of the school’s technology. It would be a shame if they forfeited that privilege for the rest of the term.

Les Devoirs:

  • orchestre demain
  • Math- Subtracting Decimals booklet
    • Check in (for marks!): Adding and Subtracting Decimals demain
  • Concours- by 11:30 tomorrow- au moins UN paragraphe écrit!
  • vendredi- dress like your favourite book character day!

A minor hiccup to mention today. The class has been unofficially organizing lunchtime potlucks between themselves, you may or may not have heard. It hasn’t really been an issue, until today. My main concerns were that it was happening behind my back (I’m pretty easygoing and wouldn’t have said no?) and it got VERY messy today. Yes, the students are capable of cleaning up (hiding their activities?), but when the noon hour supervisor shows me pictures of pop spilled all over the floor, and sharing that the students were sweeping up the pop with a broom, I have to take issue. I have asked the students to postpone future potlucks for the time being, until we can create a scenario where all parties will be satisfied with the results.

Tomorrow is Chinese New Year, and we did an activity related to year of the rat, and some tasty treats were available in the Soo-permarche today. Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Les Devoirs:

  • finish research for French speech, we will be tackling the writing process next week.
  • several students have outstanding work (One Tradition de ma Famille and Le Corps Humain title page), check TeacherEase to see if your child has missing work.

I only heard positives from our TOC on Friday, so bravo les amis! Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

There was a LOT of socialization today… if it really starts to impact quality (and quantity) of work, loss of privileges will ensue. We have a lot to cover in the next 5 weeks.

Heads up for your calendars, the WGSS Open House for incoming grade 8s is next Thursday, 6pm.

  • Math- Adding Decimals (page I only, J if you want)

I hope you are getting around safely today. I know my commute to school was a bit dicey, and it was incredibly cold for the kids to be outside (they didn’t seem to mind all that much). We’ll see what the next couple of days brings. PLEASE encourage your child to dress appropriately for school. MANY were outside in just a hoodie with no hat or mitts. We went out for the last 20 minutes today, and in my experience, any skin exposed to the air was cold and biting in minutes.

Reminder- this Wednesday is our second Ski/Sb trip. Students MUST have their little white pass with their rental information on it. It should be attached to the jacket they wore last week. Arrival time no later than 8:30, dress in more layers than last week (it’s going to be COLD), and more snacks if they were ravenous by lunch. I will have more information as it becomes available if the weather and conditions are unfavourable.

Les Devoirs:

  • Orchestre demain
  • SH- Page titre La Mesopotamie due demain
  • Math- Adding Decimals package

I was very impressed with Division 1’s behaviour at the concert this afternoon. Very well behaved considering the length of time they were required to sit. Then, they played very well when it was finally their turn!

This evening, see you at 6:30pm. Wear all black (hoodies ok). We will either be in Mr Knox or Mme Quon’s room. Don’t forget your music!

If you haven’t read my email about watching The Giver tomorrow, please make sure you do so. We are watching it in the afternoon.

Friday we are walking over to WGSS for their Holiday Extravaganza, rain or shine. 10:15am departure, 12:15pm arrival.

3 more days!

le 13 décembre

Considering that yesterday was a full moon and today is Friday the 13th, today has been pretty good!

We finished up our holiday banner that is now decorating the gym, we finished our writing activity which will be on display for the concert as well. Some students helped set up the stage and decorate this afternoon, merci!

First term reports should be available for your viewing pleasure. While term grades should not be a surprise, as Mme Asimakis and I have worked to keep them up to date, comments are an opportunity to get a snapshot of how your child is both academically and behaviourally, and provide a great opportunity to converse with your child about their progress, effort and participation in their learning. If you require any clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Upcoming Events:

  • Tuesday: Intermediate Winter Concert (1pm Show and 7pm Show)
  • Friday: Pyjama Day
    • WGSS Holiday Extravaganze (more info to come)
